Celebrating Grandparents
Grandparents. Grandparent day is the first Sunday after Labor Day (September 13th this year). I think it's easy to brush this day off as another silly day ("everything has a day nowadays. National Donut Day etc.), but why don't we treat it more like Mother's Day or Father's Day?

Tips for a Successful Toddler Photo Session
Let's talk about toddlers. Toddlers can be...challenging. I know. I have one of my own at home. But they can also be fun, joyful, curious. The key to having a successful session with a toddler is to embrace the chaos. Let their personality shine by allowing them to direct the session. They are the boss for the hour and we go along for the ride.

A Summer Morning in Waterloo
My previous blog post was about a session done at golden hour (the hour before sunset). As a Guelph Family and Newborn Photographer, I wanted to show this gallery next to showcase the difference in lighting at different times of the day. This was a morning session. The lighting can be trickier to work with in the morning, but this beautiful trail was close to the family's house and provided perfect shade from the harsh daylight sun.

A Spring Evening in the Arboretum
A newborn session at golden hour in the Guelph Arboretum to start off the season of outdoor sessions. I am so happy to be back to outdoor sessions, especially on such a beautiful warm evening. It was a pleasure to document this sweet family, including one pair of grandparents and a friendly dog.

A Newborn Session at Park Hill Studios
As a Guelph Family and Newborn Photographer, this in studio newborn session was a dream! This little guy loved the bassinet I use for newborn sessions and I managed to capture some of his smiles. We paused the session for a feed once the little guy got a bit cranky. I love capturing photos of parents feeding their babies. It's such a big part of the newborn stage and something that most parents don't think to photograph themselves. I try and keep newborn sessions as relaxed a

A Dog Trainer Branding Session
A branding session at Park Hill Studios for Sandy from "Because ... Dogs", her dog training service. As a Guelph Family and Branding Photographer, it was so helpful that Sandy was very communicative before the session. She had a vision for the story she wanted to show in the branding photos and came very prepared on the day. I had a great time bringing her vision to life (how could you not with all of the dogs around?!).

It's Never Too Late to Book a "Newborn" Session
A cozy in-home lifestyle baby session as a Guelph Family and Newborn Photographer. It's always special to be welcomed into someone's home and to capture photos where people are most comfortable. This sweet girl was 4 months old. It is never too late to book a "newborn" session. This stage of a baby's life allows for photos of the baby sitting up and capturing their changing facial expressions!

Love is in the Air During this Engagement Session
Returning clients mean so much to me. Having the opportunity to build a relationship, get to know people on a personal level, and capture these once in a lifetime moments is really what being a Guelph Family and Couple Photographer is all about for me. I was so happy when these returning clients asked me to photograph an engagement session for them. We had a sunny day light Park Hill Studios beautifully

Maternity Session with a Toddler
Maternity sessions with a toddler can be ... unpredictable. This couple came in with the best attitude! No expectations of getting the "perfect" photo of them and their energetic two year old boy. They embraced the chaos, understood that candid photos were our best opportunity to get him to smile, and brought toys and snacks to keep him busy while we took photos of just the two of them. As a Guelph Family and Maternity Photographer, I had so much fun with them.

Snowy Family Photo Session
I really enjoyed this family session in the snow, as a Guelph Family Photographer. The family is moving, so this session was extra special to capture their beautiful home and property before they leave. It was a perfect mix of candid documentary style photos and more posed family and individual photos.

Cozy In Home Newborn Session in Guelph, Ontario.
An in home newborn session by Sarah Ayers Photography, a Guelph Family Photographer. There are pros and cons to in home vs. studio newborn sessions. Studios provide excellent lighting, beautiful backgrounds, and the ease of not needing to tidy your home. In home sessions are cozier, more personal feeling, and captures the newborn bubble you experience in your home and the baby's new nursery. It is up to you what is easier for your family and what vibe you want to capture in t

Fall Petites at the Guelph Arboretum
Fall Petites were a success this year! Thank you so much to all of the families who came out for mini sessions at the Guelph Arboretum in October. As a Guelph Family Photographer, I had so much fun capturing candid and posed moments for these sweet families. It was a great mix of couples, families with babies, families with older kids, and of course, a few dogs.

An In Studio Newborn Session
A newborn session at Wildfield Studio in Guelph. Bright, airy and neutral...it is a beautiful space for a newborn session if you don't feel like having it in your home (I know how tiring those first few weeks are and you might not feel up for having someone in your home or making it tidy).

Engineering Lab at the University of Waterloo
Recently, I had the unique opportunity to photograph a lab at the University of Waterloo. A brilliant and kind professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering asked me to capture photos of her undergraduate and graduate students in the lab and the field. I don't just specialize in family photos, but I also photograph headshots, branding sessions, and other work scenarios. Also, I will happily travel to Waterloo and other cities around Guelph.

Natural Light Fresh 48
Another Fresh 48 in the books at Milton District Hospital! The natural light was beautiful in this room and created some wonderful highlights and shadows. It really does feel like such a privilege to meet these babies when they are around 24 hours old and document this time for families.
