Hi! I wanted to write a little blog about the different styles of newborn photography. Now, you might be saying, there are different types of newborn photography?! Yes! There are two main styles called posed and lifestyle. I'll explain the difference and why I choose to photograph lifestyle instead of posed as a Guelph Family Photographer.
Two Styles of Newborn Photography
Posed
This is the style of newborn photography where you see the posed baby with props such as flowers, hats, little beds etc. While they are creative and the props can add a personal touch if they are significant to the parents, the props can be distracting from the newborn. Babies are alone in these photos, which means that they get to be the star of the show, but it can also feel like the babies are isolated. They are also beautiful, colourful, creative, peaceful.
Lifestyle
This style of newborn photography focuses on family connection. It involves photographing the newborn with their parents, siblings, and pets. It can be done in studio or in home. It’s a great way to incorporate a personal touch of having photos in the newborn's nursery and the parent’s bedroom. It can create an intimate feel and capture your life in this moment. It's a beautiful way to capture love and connection amongst the family. I personally use a bassinet, swaddles and blankets, but no other props.
One style isn't better than the other. It just comes down to what style you and your family would like. What style matches your personalities?
What style will look best framed and hanging in your home?
Does your whole family want to be involved?
